Our second weekend in Zanzibar

On Friday afternoon we left Stone Town on our way to Kendwa Rocks Beach Resort. This time we decided not to rent a car but to take a taxi both ways. The price difference was only slight, and perhaps it was a mistake but in the end it was also alright. Our taxi driver was called George. He spoke really good English and knew his way around perfectly. We arrived in Kendwa Rocks around 10 a.m. and found out shortly that the next day there would be a huge party – “The Kendwa Rocks Full Moon Party”. These are famous and every month people come from all over to attend them. The resort was fully booked because of this party. We weren’t particularly happy about this because we knew that Clara would go early to bed and we would never leave her alone, even with a baby-phone. But the resort was really nice and the bungalows were very far from the beach where the party would took place so we decided to stay.

During the day we relaxed at the beach and swam around corals. We showed Clara many colorful fishes which could be seen from the surface and collected sea shells. In the evenings we would walk around the beach with a flashlight trying to scare crabs and watch them run away. Clara found this very amusing and would laugh every time a crab would pop out its hole. The night of the party we slept well although some teenage guests were very loud outside their bungalows. The next day when they were sleeping at the beach and Clara would cry for some reason we didn’t really try to make her stop….:)

Soon the weekend was over and we were back on the road towards Stone Town. On the way our taxi driver took us to a spice farm and we made a Spice Tour. We saw where many spices come from and how they are grown. Within the farm there was nut meg, cardamom, clove, pepper, vanilla, ginger, saffron, cinnamon, lemon grass, curcuma and others which I forgot… It was very interesting and now we know where spices come from.
